*1935 Baku / Aserbaidschan
Chajjam Mirzazade studied Composition under Kara Karajev at the Uzejr Hagybayov Music Academy in Baku, where he has continued to work as a professor in the department of Composition. He won the Azerbaijan State Prize in 1975 and 1986. Mirzazades compositional style has been clearly influenced by the music of the Orient and Occident: atonal sonorities, self-reflective movements, delicate ornamentation, fine-grained, high-contrast colors, and a distortion of sound, are all evident in his work.
